Tee Ball

Tee Ball is the introductory level of play in BNBSL. Coaches work with players to develop basic throwing, catching, and hitting skills. The goal is to have fun so the children enjoy the introduction to baseball with their family and friends.

We are always in need of volunteer coaches at this level! We are entirely volunteer-run, and all of our coaching staff are parents of players. We provide comprehensive Tee Ball guidelines, coaching resources, and tips. It requires no previous coaching experience! If you are interested in coaching your child in Tee Ball, please let us know during registration.

What aged players are appropriate for this program?

We invite players ages four and up in Pre-K and Kindergarten to enroll in our program. We recommend that you contact the registrar if you have any questions about the appropriateness of this level of play for your child.

Practices and Games

When are practices and how often are they?

Tee Ball typically meets twice weekly on weeknights from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. for a combined 1/2 hour practice and 1/2 hour game with another team in our league. Schedules vary to accommodate multiple teams sharing the fields.

Tee Ball uses the Upper Green baseball diamond in Newbury and the baseball field behind the Newbury Elementary School.

What time of the year does this program run?

The Tee Ball season begins at the end of April and runs through the first week in June.

Equipment

What equipment does my player need at this level?

Players only need to come prepared with an appropriate glove. The league provides equipment bags for each team with bats, helmets, and balls. Players may choose to bring their own bat and helmet. Cleats are not necessary at this age.

Jerseys

Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?

Players will receive a team shirt and hat to wear to each practice/game. These are typically handed out at Opening Day.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at Practices/Games?

Practice/Games are an hour long and consist of each team practicing separately for the first half an hour under the direction of their coaches, followed by a half an hour mini-game with the opposing team. Our Tee Ball mini-games are informal learning experiences. Each team is given the opportunity to bat through the complete lineup (off the Tee) and run the bases. We don’t have outs, but we encourage the fielding team to make a play to first when each child hits. This usually lasts a few innings.

What happens when there is rain in the forecast?

Rainouts/Cancellations/Postponements: Coaches make decisions regarding inclement weather by 3 p.m. on the day of a game and let parents know. Rescheduling a practice/game for another date will be at the coaches’ discretion and depend on field availability.
